I went to my monthly ultrasound Friday morning and it was so fun! Hannah is "Baby A" since she was the first one they found on the first ultrasound, so we got to see her first. She was being super squirmy and kept wiggling away. They had to come back to get her head measurement and arm measurement after she had calmed down a bit. Gideon was being a little stubborn too, he was keeping pretty still, but laying away from the position that would give us some cute pictures of his profile, and it took a minute or two to get a good read on his heart.
We had a student doing her externship with us that morning and when our sonographer, Dawn, went to talk to the doctor Taylor got to do a scan. She managed to get a cute profile of Gideon and on the monitor we could see parts of both of them at the same time. She happened to capture moments where they were laying with their lower legs pressed against each other. It appeared that Gideon was doing leg presses against Hannah, and she retaliated by kicking him in the face before curling back up into the fetal position. It was probably one of the funniest things I have witnessed in an ultrasound, and I felt a little bad, those poor babies are running out of space already and we have 16 weeks left. Right now the ultrasound measurements put them at 1.2 lbs and 1.1 lbs respectively, so about the length of a banana and the weight of a loaf of bread.
As far as the pregnancy itself goes, my belly is big enough that I can no longer bend over comfortably and since I spent more time than usual cleaning on Thursday and Friday, my leg muscles were so sore. I could barely focus by Saturday night and couldn't figure out why I was in so much pain, but as I squatted down to get something I realized the problem. I was squatting instead of bending and had done it enough I felt like I had been doing a serious workout. Byron went to Kroger at 11 pm and picked up some Bengay for me. That stuff is amazing!!! The relief was almost instant and I got more sleep Saturday night than I had any other night last week.
Ezekiel: I finally have a kid with taste buds like mine, and he helps me eat all my unhealthy treats that his brothers snub, like cinnamon bears, which apparently burn Caleb and David's mouths, and Caleb even turned down chocolate covered pretzels this morning in favor of a carrot. He is so Byron's child. 😂
David: Is experiencing some regression in his potty training. We went through 4 pairs of pants and a lot of tears Thursday. The weekend was a little better, but he still had a minor accident at Granny's house Friday morning, and wouldn't go potty without Byron or I yesterday, I guess we'll see how today goes.
Caleb: He is just growing so fast. I can hardly keep up. He loves numbers, and is more interested in them than his alphabet or reading right now, though he is so excited to have gotten his library card this week. He practiced writing his name for 2 weeks so he could sign it himself, and he has his very own wallet to keep it in. I think we may just have another mathematician on our hands though since the questions I have been getting for the last two weeks are all about adding numbers.
He is a huge help here at home and I am so grateful for him. I voiced my gratitude to him the other day and he said "You should thank Heavenly Father in your prayers." When I told him that I do, every day, he asked me when, stating that I never said anything in my prayers at mealtimes, so I got to explain that I say prayers at night before bed just like he does and that's when I take the time to truly thank Heavenly Father for the blessings that my children are. He seemed pretty happy about that. I just love his spirit and his pure, unbridled love for Christ. It is such a beautiful thing.
Friday morning I got to spend some time talking to my sister in law Mindy and it was so fun! She and her husband are adopting a baby girl this month (Marie will be here by next Wednesday!) and we're both so excited about our families growing. She has three sisters that have had twins and was able to give me some great advice just based on what she has witnessed from their experiences, and one of her sisters added me to a Mormon Mom's of Multiples facebook group and it's really fun to read about other people's challenges and experiences.
Friday night was our stake father/son campout, but since we still haven't bought a tent we opted out this year. Instead Byron took the boys swimming at the YMCA to give me a quiet evening at home, though since my parents lovingly watched Caleb and David during naptime I felt well rested and truly got to enjoy the peace and quiet instead of crashing like I otherwise would have done. It's embarrassing how much I sleep right now.
Saturday we picked up Amelia and Amber for a day of being Mother's helpers. Amelia kept the boys away and occupied for the morning while Amber helped Byron and I clean out the kids rooms. Amber was awesome sorting through tons of shoes that are all currently off sizes for the boys right now, and helped put away a ton of things. Amelia played with the boys tirelessly and even took them across the street to play at our tiny neighborhood park for a little bit. After lunch they both played with the boys until I was ready to run some errands before taking them home. It was an incredibly productive day and I'm so grateful for my amazing family!
Sunday Morning I was awoken by the beautiful sound of my children's cries of "Happy Mother's Day" as Byron brought them upstairs to bring me my gift (a new insulated tumbler for me to stay hydrated filled with my favorite chocolate, yum!) and the loving letter Byron writes for me every year. Caleb was disappointed he didn't get to make or buy anything for me, but I know he'll get to do all that fun next year in his kindergarten class.
The lessons at church yesterday were all so amazing. Sacrament meeting focused on building a Christ centered home, our Sunday School lesson was about the blessings of family history and temple work, and in Relief Society we talked about how our personal testimonies and the testimonies of others had blessed our lives. The spirit was so strong, I loved the comments made by members of our the classes, and the speakers were all wonderful. I am so grateful for the ability we have to attend church each Sunday and be strengthened by fellow saints.
After church I came home and the boys helped me get started on bread and dessert for our Mother's day dinner. After getting the brownie mix into a pan I realized my oven wasn't heating! I texted my mom an SOS message then abandoned my brownie mix and switched over to focus solely on the bread dough. Byron started trying to trouble shoot what was going on with the oven. After an hour of him taking different components apart and learning how to use his multi meter I asked him to let it go since there was nothing we could do about it that day anyway so he took the time to call his Mom and the boys loved getting to talk to Grandma and Grandpa Boulton. I took the bread dough to my mom's house to be baked in her fancy new oven (turned out to be the best bread ever. She seriously....is just amazing) and the boys met me there for dinner. My mom made up for the lack of dessert and everything tasted incredible. I loved getting to spend so much time with so much family. It felt a little backwards since my mom was the one spoiling me, and I felt some serious guilt about not getting to make her day special, but with this twin pregnancy I am learning how to be more humble and how to let other people serve me. It's much harder than I expected. I feel uncomfortable letting other people do things for me that my brain tells me I should be able to do on my own, but I realize that I'm just being prideful and it doesn't do anyone any good if I overdo it.
