David: He's growing, quickly, and talks more every day. He loves hiding his little stuffed animal (a fennec fox I bought at the Cincinnatti Zoo that he calls a dog) then asking us "Where'd it go?" and giggling like mad to run off and "find it". He also loves playing peek-a-boo, flipping through books, "taking" pictures, playing his own rendition of tag with Caleb, and snuggling. I can't believe how quickly he is growing, and I keep making comparison's to when Caleb was his age, how we had him sleeping exclusively in a twin size bed (I still let David take a nap in his pack'n'play sometimes when I don't have the patience to sing him to sleep) giving him bottles to calm him down when he's tired and cranky (I know, terrible for his teeth and totally my own personal crutch), and how much more David loves airplanes and music than Caleb did at that age. He's such a sweet little love with so much energy and a huge love of life. I feel so blessed to be his Mommy.
Caleb: I think this post will largely be about him. There are so many fun things to talk about when he comes up.
He remembers so many things now, asks for certain parks and play areas, begs Byron for bike rides, introduces David and "the baby in Mommy's tummy" to anyone who will listen, and loves being a big brother and a helper. He runs to find diapers for me, and will guide David back to me if he thinks David has wandered too far away, but still fights over my lap and what books will be read when it's nearing the end of the day and we're having quiet time.
He loves playing hide'n'seek with Byron. Which goes something like this. Byron has him count to 10 then hides somewhere kind of obvious so Caleb can find him, then Byron counts to 10 while Caleb hides somewhere really obvious and giggles like a mad man saying "No! I in here!" while Byron walks around saying things really loud like "Is he under the table? Is he behind the curtain?" It's hilarious, and adorable, and a great past-time for a little boy with tons of energy to blow off.
He thoroughly enjoyed getting to play at the splash pad with my cousin's son Carson this week and willingly entered the icy water - repeatedly - for the first time in his life. David was more interested in the 5 and 6 year old girls following him around, cooing over how cute he was while trying to mooch off their snacks, as if we didn't have enough food of our own, but Caleb ran and played so hard that he was asleep by 7 that night without a second thought. It was a miracle since he rarely goes to sleep before 9 or 10 without a fight, and Byron and I both really enjoyed a long quiet evening, and were surprised he didn't wake up again (except for a potty break) until 7 the next morning.
Last Sunday he got to give his first scripture in sharing time. He was excited to go up and speak in the microphone, and though I've watched many of my sunbeams get up to give their parts over the last 5 months, he's the only one who didn't try to hide his face in his Daddy's shirt and even spoke loud enough that everyone could hear him. I was so proud of him.
He had a 3 year physical on Thursday. It was almost 6 months late since we weren't going to give him one. He was up to date on all of his vaccines, but I wanted to make sure I could get a head start on badgering the school board if he was going to need any kind of speech therapy since he's too old for the Help Me Grow program. He's developing just fine though, loved asking the doctor questions about the different equipment he was using and carrying his growth charts out of the office like they were the most important papers in the world and then showing them to his Daddy when Byron came home that night.
Byron: He's doing well. BerrieHill just got their crew of summer interns in so Byron is getting to teach them different things and assign them different parts of projects he is working on so there are a bunch of new names I'm trying to learn when he comes home and talks about the people he worked with that day.
He had his bike tuned up about a week ago, and even got it back fairly quickly, which was nice, but when he got it back, he realized the front derailer is a little out of whack and the guy hadn't had his brake pads in stock, so he called in to have the brake pads ordered and is going to take it back when they come in.
We were really excited last weekend when Mom and Dad Boulton contacted Byron asking about any identifying factors that might have been on Byron's mission name tag. They were able to make it to Temple Square to search for Byron's missionary name tag, one of 1200 in a new exhibit about return missionaries. They weren't able to find it on Saturday, there were too many people coming in and dimming the lights every time they played one of the videos, so they went back Sunday morning and found it almost right away!
Arielle: My self control has been tested to it's limits and beyond this week while battling the worst case of poison ivy I remember ever having. Every thing I do to try and fight it just seems to help it spread and I'm itching like crazy. If anyone has a miracle remedy that is tried and true, I'd love to hear about it since I've tried everything from rubbing alcohol and anti-itch creams to Caladryl and poison ivy scrubs that are supposed to remove the oils. I've washed more sheets and laundry than I care to think about and it seems that nothing is working...at. all. Everything feels like a myth.
On a brighter note, I feel Ezekiel move more and more every day and hope that soon Byron and the boys will be able to feel his movements too. I have another ultra sound in about a week and a half since they were unable to scan his face and heart in the last one, and am looking forward to it.
Last Saturday I got to help my mom take pictures at a wedding. It was really fun, and the bride was beautiful, so I enjoyed the day immensely. Especially when I was able to make it home before 8 pm that night.
Wednesday my mommy came over and redeemed her Mother's Day gift to me, which was amazing. She worked for about 3 hours in the front of my yard cleaning out my flower beds, pruning trees, and cutting out honeysuckle. She even planted some gorgeous hostas in the front flower bed, and had brought a helper, the daughter of one of the sisters she visit teaches, who was awesome about chasing the boys down and making sure they all stayed safe and happy while I tried to help out a little bit, and when I say a little bit, I think all I managed to get done was the pruning of half of one fruit tree and cutting out some of the shooters on my crab apple tree...That night Byron went out and got some mulch for me since it was the last day it was 50% off and we went out bright and early (around 6 am the next morning) to lay it down in the front flower bed. It looks amazing and I'm so excited! I wish I had a before picture so you could see how much work was done, but at the same time I'm glad I don't because it was embarrassingly bad. hahaha
In General:
We got to go to the temple last week for a sealing session, and even though I didn't have any family names for it, we still had a wonderful time and I was so grateful for the time we were able to spend in such a beautiful and sacred place. Our sealer was German and since a lot of the names were German it was amazing to hear him slip into German and pronounce all of the names just as they were supposed to be said. I felt so blessed to be present and to hear such beautiful names.
Last Monday was Memorial Day and we headed out nice and early since Byron's scout troop had scheduled their annual fundraiser for that morning. they tried something new this year and planned a 5k race with a silent auction of baked goods to follow, and they didn't consider the turnout too shabby, though I think they definitely have a better idea of what needs to be done beforehand in order to get the word out to the community.
We went to my parents ward picnic afterwards and had a good time, but were surprised by the chilly, rainy weather and were woefully unprepared for it, so the festivities ended much earlier than I think they ever have before and Katrina came over for a couple hours afterwards to let our children keep playing.
I think my favorite part of the day though was getting to have a joint Family Home Evening with my parents and siblings though. It was short and sweet, but we had root beer floats for refreshment and I think Byron enjoyed having a bigger audience for his lesson than just Caleb and I. :)
I suppose that's all for now. Hope you enjoyed reading about our little corner of the world and know that we love and miss all of you!
